This 50 minute guided walking tour will take you through the history of Atlanta from its early beginnings to modern day influence. As the trade and cultural center for the South; Alabama Street, between Peachtree Street and Central Avenue, was the city's center, and later became what we know today as Underground Atlanta.

Learn the meaning behind its name, ties to Atlanta's past and the historical events that have lead Atlanta to become the "Capital of the South".  This interactive tour features a number of historic sites highlighting the importantance of:

 

  • The Battle of Atlanta during the American Civil War
  • Gone with the Wind
  • The Importance of Atlanta's Railroads

See what life was like in the early 1800's and what it is today as you follow our professional historians down the historic streets of Underground Atlanta. The tour is designed for both adults and children and ends with a spectacular view of Downtown Atlanta.

RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED.  Tours are not held if guests have not signed up for an upcoming tour.  You must have pre-purchased your ticket to join a tour.  (Guests are asked to arrive at least 15 minutes before tour begins to check-in).

Things To Bring

Due to a portion of the tour being conducted outside, we encourage all guests to dress appropriate for any inclement weather.

Gratuities are not included, but appreciated when earned.

Cancellation Policy

- Non-refundable: Once purchased, tickets cannot be refunded and can only be rescheduled if availability permits.

- Activity takes place rain or shine: The activity runs regardless of weather conditions. Walks will depart in light rain, so please bring an umbrella or rain coat if the weather looks questionable.

During the summer, please be aware of the Southern heat and humidity and bring water along. In the rare situation where the seller is forced to cancel the event, ticket-holders will be allowed to reschedule to another time (subject to availability).

Pickup/Departure

Tours begin at 65 Upper Alabama Street (Outside the Atlanta Visitors Center office). All guests must arrive 15 minutes before their tour time. If you need assistance the day of your tour, please call 404-890-0699

Tours will conclude at the originating location for the tour.
